100 Years of Lola Flores: the Pharaohness of Zambra

Join us at the Villapanés Palace in honoring the 100th anniversary of one of the most iconic artists of Spain: Jerez-born, legendary dancer, singer, and actress Lola Flores.

Through a captivating multimedia presentation in English, that includes fascinating videos, rare historic photographs, and flamenco music that probably you never heard before, discover little-known facts about flamenco:

* The influence that Broadway had on the staging of Flamenco

* The difference between the original forms of masculine & feminine flamenco dancing

* How Zambra (a palo now almost in danger of extinction) was primordial in bringing Flamenco from the Café Cantantes into theaters and films.

Presenter: Puela Lunaris, Founder/Artistic Director of Dances of the World Society’s Flamenco Roots Program, sponsored by New York Live Arts.
Guest Artist:
Lucía Aliaño, award winning, 12-year-old rising star from Jerez.
